Cynthia Margolies

Cynthia Margolies, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice in the Washington, DC area. A graduate of the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, her expertise lies in the integration of neuroscience research and trauma treatment methods into psychotherapy.

Dr. Margolies employs a range of methodologies in her work, including EMDR, Ego State Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Mindfulness, and Somatic Imagery, as well as psychodynamic principles. She has worked with adults in therapy for 40 years, and teaches and supervises clinicians. She has presented on the topic of trauma to groups including the Brookline, Mass. Mental Health Center, the Virginia Psychoanalytic Society, and the national meetings of the Division of Psychoanalysis of the APA.

During her 15-year tenure as a psychiatric consultant to the Peace Corps, Dr. Margolies treated volunteers with PTSD. She has served on the faculties of the Washington School of Psychiatry, the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, the GWU PsyD program and the Howard University Hospital psychiatric residency program.
