Opening up the Connection Through Somatic Imagery & Ego State Psychotherapy
In this course we build the theory of using imagery in groups from our own experience together as an imagery group.
We explore how imagery fosters group cohesion; highlights and illuminates group process, themes, and stages; and
develops the capacity for both empathy and differentiation. Participants discover how others' images connect to and
facilitate their own process and how their own process helps to facilitate the work of the group.
These concepts and techniques are then applied to work with couples - a very small group. Participants learn how
imagery is used in the diagnostic and therapeutic process to highlight the interaction between the partners, to explore
partners' perceptions of themselves and each other, to enrich the nurturing and empowering process between mates,
to enhance conflict resolution skills, and to deepen the relationship by sharing imagery experiences.
Special attention is given to exploring the impact disowned parts of the self have on group and couples processes and how
to access and work with these disowned parts. Participants have the opportunity to raise issues from their own practices
about using imagery with both groups and couples.
